Do I have a special Gift?

The best outcome of this life would be for him to be a good person, who didn’t purposely hurt anyone, without becoming a victim. No matter what life threw at him.
I could see that so far a lot had been thrown at him. It was in his life-path to be confronted with quite some injustice from an early age which gave him the chance to learn to stay in balance and to avoid becoming a victim or a perpetrator. The events of his childhood would determine his choice of profession, and this way he would remain involved with the topics of (in)justice and (un)fairness.
When it came to love he was a fortunate man because he was a person that people could easily love, but when it came to intimate relationships he had a stormy path. Mainly because the topic of (un)fairness also played out in his love life.
When I looked at the person he had become so far, I could see that he had done very well. He had lived through a fair bit of unfairness, but he hadn’t allowed it to turn him into a victim, nor a vindictive person.
When I looked at his future, I was happy to see a lot of love. I saw the word ‘reward’ spelled out, and that is what his future looked like. A lot of love and goodness returning to him for being such a good person.
At this point I stopped talking to give Ian a chance to ask questions, either about the above, or about other things on his mind.
He told me his mother had come from a wealthy family, and that she was disinherited because of marrying his father. His father left him, his 2 younger brothers and his mum when Ian was 6, and he never paid a cent of child support. The grandparents refused to help or even see their daughter, but they did pick the boys up about twice a year to spend the day at their huge estate. At that time, Ian lived with his family in a 2 bedroom apartment. Once he was big enough to understand, he told his grandparents that he would not visit them anymore unless his mother could come too.
Eventually they made peace, but when his grandparents died his uncles and aunts conspired together to get her out of the will. Not having money for a lawyer, she ended up without anything. This prompted Ian to become a lawyer, but he had to drop out after the first year, because his mother fell ill and he became the breadwinner.
At the time a friend of his had just started a business and needed someone to do his books, so he started doing a bookkeeping course at night. This lead to a job in finance at his local council, and over the years he had worked himself up to be the treasurer. He made sure all tax money was spent fair and justly. How appropriate.
He told me about those real highs and lows in his life I had picked up on, but also that at the moment, everything in his life felt okay. The reason he had come to me, was because he wanted to know if I could see if he had a special gift? A friend of his who was doing Reiki courses, had used him to practice on. He had liked it so much, that he had done a Reiki course too. During the course, one of his fellow students had said she had seen a golden light coming out of his hands. She had told him this meant that he had healing hands, and that this is what he should be doing in his life.
I was speechless. I tried to tune into his healing hands, but all that came up to me was the following:
you have just told me you became the breadwinner at the age of 19; you helped pay for your brothers’ education; you’ve taken care of your mother until she died; you’ve adopted your wife’s children after their father disappeared, and you and your wife are foster parents. And you are asking me if you have a special gift?
You have done everything you came here to do. You have dealt with injustice and unfairness without hurting back and without becoming bitter, or a victim. You have kept your heart wide open, and today you give as much as you always have done.
For all I know you have amazing healing hands, but no matter how fantastic they are, they will have a hard time competing with your heart, because that is truly gold.
I would like you to go home and to put your healing hands over your own heart and to feel on the deepest level what an amazing grace it is to have a heart like yours. Because this is the only missing link in your life: the people in your life love you very much, and they would love you to be able to see what they see in you.
Feeling what a beautiful person you are won’t make you arrogant or up yourself, on the contrary, it will humble you, which will allow you to give and receive more. And the more you do this, the more you understand that you don’t need another gift, because you are that special gift.
After that, go ahead and use your hands to heal. Let them be another expression of your loving heart.
After those words, we sat in a loving space looking each other in the eye. We were both touched: Ian because he had just opened up to his own love flow, and me because I had the honour to sit with him in this love flow.
